Rapper-actor Ludacris ordered to pay $7K monthly child support

Fans of the movie Fast & Furious in Florida may find it interesting to learn that, according to recent media reports, actor-rapper and one of the stars in the latest Fast & Furious movie, Ludacris, was ordered by a family court to pay his ex-girlfriend and mother of his now four-month-old daughter $7,000 per month in child support.

In the ongoing child custody and support battle between the 36-year-old actor and his ex-girlfriend, reports suggest that Ludacris tried to avoid paying the mother of his daughter the amount of child support that she requested, citing financial problems stemming from the delay in producing the movie Fast & Furious 7 as a result of the recent death of co-star Paul Walker. According to reports, in his response to his ex-girlfriend's filing seeking child support in the amount of $15,000 per month, Ludacris noted that he could only pay about $1,800 per month.

Considering Ludacris was listed in Forbes magazine as one of the highest paid in hip hop in 2013, wherein he is estimated to have made about $12 million alone last year, the presiding judge in the child custody and support case did not buy his claims of financial woes. In addition to being ordered to pay $7,000 per month in child support, he also was ordered to pay his ex-girlfriend's attorney fees and litigation costs, which amounted to more than $35,000. Furthermore, citing the best interest of the child, Ludacris's ex-girlfriend was awarded full custody of their daughter.

For many parents with family law issues pertaining to child custody and support, such media reports of celebrities having similar issues may show that they are not the only ones struggling with issues of child support and custody. However, for many parents' child support and custody issues can be taxing, emotionally charged and financially draining. Seeking the legal counsel of a family law attorney familiar with the nuances of family law may help ease some of the burden that parents may feel during such proceedings.
