Actor Tyrese Gibson entangled in child custody dispute

Many divorced and separated couples in the U.S. with children routinely grapple with family law issues pertaining to child custody, parenting time for the non-custodial parent and more. These issues do not discriminate, and can affect both the average persona and celebrities alike.

Florida residents familiar with the actor and singer Tyrese Gibson may be interested to learn that the 35-year-old is embroiled in a child custody dispute with his ex-wife over their 6-year-old daughter. The couple married in 2007, but divorced two years later in 2009. Apparently since their divorce, the couple has been frequently fighting.

According to reports, the police recently got involved in the custody dispute when the actor went to his ex-wife's residence to pick-up his daughter. His ex-wife apparently indicated that their daughter was sick, and did not allow Tyrese to take her. Even though law enforcement personnel got involved to determine what, if any, custody arrangement was in place between the parties, reports indicate that Tyrese left the premises without his daughter. Shortly thereafter, the actor's representative stated that Tyrese's ex-wife did not abide by a court custodial order, and denied the actor access to his daughter. Apparently before this most recent incident, Tyrese's ex-wife filed legal paperwork wherein she accused the actor of failing to use his parenting time, and instead choosing to go to Dubai.

Furthermore, last year the 35-year-old actor filed a custody evaluation, which is expected to occur in the near future. The hope is that the court sanctioned evaluation will resolve the couple's custody dispute.

Clearly, child custody disputes can rapidly snowball into something serious when the parents are unable to work together. Even though it is important for parents to keep the best interests of their child in mind, given the emotions involved, even the most rational parents can make irrational decisions. Thus, during such times, it may be helpful for a parent to talk to a family law attorney about his or her options.
